Job Description

Position Summary:

The Registered Behavior Technician is a paid position that is responsible for successfully conducting specified aspects of applied behavior analysis and therapy with individuals with behavioral needs. The Registered Behavior Technician also maintains regular communication to promote continuity in behavioral application of strategies and to share successes as they occur. He or she ensures that these services achieve the mission of Benchmark Human Services (BHS), meet their strategic objectives, goals and scorecard measurements and meet the quality standards set by BHS, its funders, and its accreditation agencies.

Definition:

The RBT is a paraprofessional who practices under the close, ongoing supervision of a BCBA or BCaBA (“designated RBT supervisor”). The RBT is primarily responsible for the direct implementation of skill-acquisition and behavior-reduction plans developed by the supervisor. The RBT may also collect data and conduct certain types of assessments (e.g., stimulus preference assessments). The RBT does not design intervention or assessment plans. It is the responsibility of the designated RBT supervisor to determine which tasks an RBT may perform as a function of his or her training, experience, and competence. The designated RBT supervisor is ultimately responsible for the work performed by the RBT.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Possess a minimum of a high school diploma or national equivalent
  • Successfully complete a criminal background registry check at the time of application (within 45 days of submitting the application)
  • Be registered by the BACB as an RBT.
  • Licensure/Certifications Applicant must be registered with the Behavior Analyst Certification Board BACB as a registered behavioral technician (RBT) at the time of their application for this position.
  • Practice Parameters & Renewal Requirements
  • Registered Behavior Technicians may not practice independently. Each RBT must have at least one supervisor who publicly attests to supervise his/her practice on the forthcoming RBT Registry at www.BACB.com. Supervisors must hold the BCBA or BCaBA credential or be a member of a professional group officially granted supervisory privileges by the BACB. Each RBT must obtain ongoing supervision for a minimum of 5% of the hours spent providing applied behavior-analytic services per month. Supervision must include at least 2 face-to-face, synchronous contacts per month during which the supervisor observes the RBT providing services (this may be conducted via the Internet). At least 1 of the 2 supervisory contacts must be one-on-one, but the other can occur in a small-group meeting.
  • Annual renewal procedures will include standard BACB attestations and reporting requirements and successful passage (again) of the RBT Competency Assessment.

Core Functions:

  • Conduct therapy using best practices and implement changes as client needs change based on the data and changing needs of each person and as advances in behavioral treatment and hands-on experience provide better direction.
  • Provide specified aspects of behavior analysis services. (see task list)
  • Work with designated Program Coordinator
  • Complete additional paperwork as required by BHS (i.e., incident reports, parent contact reports, etc.).
  • Attend and pass trainings required for job duties, including but not limited to CPR/First Aid, Mandt, Blood Borne Pathogens, and Abuse/Neglect, stay current with trainings and schedule refresher courses as needed.
  • Maintain all certifications, licenses and trainings necessary to maintain credentials.
  • Maintain a class E driver’s license, as needed.

Data and Measurement:

  • Prepare for data collection.
  • Implement continuous measurement procedures (e.g., frequency, duration).
  • Implement discontinuous measurement procedures (e.g. partial and whole interval, momentary time sampling).
  • Implement permanent product recording procedures.
  • Enter data and update graphs.

Assessments

  • Describe behavior and environment in observable and measurable terms.
  • Assist with functional assessment procedures.
  • Assist with individualized assessment procedures (e.g., curriculum-based, developmental, social skills).
  • Conduct preference assessments.

Skill Acquisition

  • Identify the essential components of a written skill acquisition plan.
  • Prepare for the session as required by the skill acquisition plan.
  • Use contingencies of reinforcement (e.g., conditioned/unconditioned reinforcement, continuous/intermittent schedules ).
  • Implement discrete trial teaching procedures.
  • Implement naturalistic teaching procedures (e.g., incidental teaching).
  • Implement task analyzed chaining procedures.
  • Implement discrimination training.
  • Implement stimulus control transfer procedures.
  • Implement stimulus fading procedures.
  • Implement prompt and prompt fading procedures.
  • Implement generalization and maintenance procedures.
  • Assist with the training of stakeholders (e.g., family, caregivers, other professionals).

Behavior Reduction:
