Job Description

POSITION TITLE: Clinical Specialist

REPORTS TO: Program Director

SUPERVISES: Occupational, Physical and Speech Therapists; Developmental Specialists


1. Assist Program Director with operational functions of Benchmark early intervention program.

2. Responsible for the enhancement of the clinical skills of each therapist in his/her own discipline, as well as supporting the growth of trans-disciplinary skills for all staff members.


  1. Comply with all Federal and State regulations, including those outlined in the Commonwealth of Virginia Notice of Child and Family Rights and Safeguards.

  2. Assist with hiring of early intervention staff.

  3. Ensure that interventionists receive the support, training, and work time necessary to fulfill the requirements of their positions.

  4. Train and mentor staff.

  5. Maintain consistent communication with team members.

  6. Assist in completing a minimum of 2 observations per interventionist per calendar year.

  7. Facilitate team meetings on a monthly basis.

  8. Develop mini-trainings for staff based on team’s suggestions.

  9. Participate in all ITC sponsored trainings, meetings, and learning opportunities.

  10. Provide direct services with a caseload of 15 hours per week.

  11. Assisting in reviewing one child’s contact notes per therapist (4 service dates) on a quarterly basis.

  12. Assist in Implementing the Fidelity Tool for every therapist by June 30 every year.

  13. Actively participate in other related committees/workgroups.

  14. Facilitate staff growth and development to ensure best practice.

  15. Comply with all standards to assure the health and safety of all staff and clients we serve.

  16. Other duties as assigned.


  1. Valid Virginia driver’s license.

  2. Bachelors Degree in early intervention related field.

  3. Three-Five years’ experience working with infants and toddlers.

  4. Knowledgeable about best practices for service delivery in early intervention.

  5. Demonstrates a commitment to Natural Learning Environment Practices, Coaching Interaction Style and Primary Provider approach.
